An Aggressive Reset

I used the holidays and the death of my father-in-law as an excuse to take a break from my diabetes reversal plan. I have not been following the rules that I set for myself in regards to diet and exercise. I have been flawless in taking my medications though. The Metformin, Losartan, and Rosuvastatin are still being taken daily. My blood glucose has stayed in an acceptable range, and my blood pressure remains good.

Even though I was taking a break from my plan by drinking alcohol on occasion, eating a meal that contained meat, dairy, and/or eggs once in a while, and not being very good about exercising daily, I mostly held a status quo. In 8 weeks off of my plan, I only gained about 5 pounds. I owe that to the Metformin and the fact that I didn't go crazy with the food and alcohol, even though I was not on my my plan.

My overall weight loss goal has remained the same; 150 pounds. However, I started an aggressive plan to get there; starting this morning. The timing of my goal has been moved up to June 1st. I weighed in at 198.4 today, so that means that I have 137 days to lose 48.4 pounds. It's aggressive, but absolutely do-able.

Here's how I'm planning to do it... As with most successful weight loss, it happens with about 90% diet. My initial eating rules will apply. No meat, dairy and eggs, No refined carbs, and No alcohol unless it's a special occasion. I will be eating what I call my "Superbowl" and an apple for breakfast most mornings. I'll write a blog post about what's in it and why really soon. My lunches on most days will be a 2-scoop Huel Black shake. My evening meal will be light; a bowl of low fat vegetable soup. This will bring me a total of about 1,000 calories per day. It's enough calories to live on, and the healthy foods I'm choosing will guarantee that I'm getting enough nutrition.

As for exercise, I'm planning on walking daily, doing some push-ups and sit-ups, and lifting some light weights. I will work in some Peloton bike workouts also that will replace some of my walks.

Eight weeks off has given me a break that I felt I needed, but I'm motivated to reach this goal by June 1st and then revisit if I need the medications that I'm taking. I think I'm going to find that my cholesterol problems, elevated blood pressure, and insulin resistance will go away as my body is given a chance to heal itself and begin to run as it should. My sincere hope is that I can get off of my 3 medications and remain healthy.

If I'm successful, I'll be heathier than I've been in 30 years, and lighter than I've been since Junior High School. I'm excited to see what the next 5+ months bring, and I hope you follow my journey with me.
