What Causes Type II Diabetes?

We hear a lot about the effects of type II diabetes, and how to treat the symptoms of it, but we really don't hear a lot about what actually causes the disease. To break it down into simple terms, people that are harboring too much fat in their muscle cells, will begin to develop insulin resistance. The fat in the muscle cells will interfere with the natural action of insulin opening the door for glucose molecules entering those muscle cells. As the level of glucose goes up in the blood, the pancreas releases more and more insulin to try to deal with the glucose overload. The fat in the muscle cells continues to gum up the ability of the insulin to get the glucose into the cells.

I am currently working to lose weight and exercise my muscles to the point where that excess fat in my muscle cells is driven out and the insulin released by my pancreas can work as it should. When I get to that point, my diabetes will be cured (unless I allow myself to let excess fat back into my muscle cells).

Dr. Barnard, in the video below, does a great job of explaining type II diabetes and how to not just treat the disease, but completely reverse it.
